What To Do
Robert “Bob” Pierson, 62, of Watertown, died peacefully at home on August 8, 2019, after a long and debilitating struggle with Gulf War Syndrome. Born along with a twin brother on August 6, 1957, in Curitiba Brazil, he was the son of Charles and Gertrude (Perry) Pierson. Bob graduated from Green Mountain High School in Lakewood, Colorado in 1975, he joined the United States Army and saw conflict in Operation Desert Shield/Operation Desert Storm before retiring in 1994.
In 1975 he met Sandra at Ft. Jackson, Colombia, South Carolina and married her in May 1977 in Watertown, South Dakota. For the next several years, Bob and Sandra lived in Colorado Springs and then moved to Grafenwöhr W. Germany. During this time, they traveled all over the United States and Europe. In 1980 they returned to Watertown where they had their son Michael and in 1982 a son David. Bob will be remembered by family and friends for his kind and gentle nature and for his love of veterans, military history and its preservation. Bob and Sandra shared a full life, inspiring their children to do likewise.
Bob is survived by his wife Sandra, sons Michael (Ian), Tampa, Florida, and David, Volga, South Dakota.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, his brother Thomas, and sister Linda.
The family is deeply grateful for the devoted care given by all the doctors, nurses and clinicians of the Sioux Falls, VA Medical Center. A private family graveside memorial service will be held Friday, August 16, 2019. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Chapter 6, P.O. Box 571, Watertown, SD 57201 for the support of other area Veterans.
