Mickie "Mick" DeKnikker

Mickie Dean DeKnikker, age 55, of Lake Preston, SD, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024, at his residence in Lake Preston, SD.

A private funeral service for Mickie Dean will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at the Johnson-Henry/Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Arlington, SD. Interment at the Oldham City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 15th from 5pm-7pm at the Johnson-Henry/Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Arlington, SD.

Mickie Dean DeKnikker was born on July 16, 1968, to Lyle and Cheryl DeKnikker of Lake Preston, SD.

Mick grew up outside Oldham on a family acreage and was raised in the Baptist faith. He attended Oldham School until its closing at the end of his junior year and completed his senior year at Arlington High School.

After high school, Mick drove the family milk truck until he moved to Sioux Falls. He worked on the road, building ethanol plants, and working commercial construction. He was also a talented finish carpenter, renovating rental properties with his brother Tim. When Mick wasn’t working, he was with his family, grilling, gardening, and shooting guns. He especially enjoyed spending time offering advice and sharing his knowledge with his nieces and nephews.

Grateful and blessed to share his life with his mother, Cheryl DeKnikker, sister, Tammy Hillestad (David) of Lake Preston, and brothers, Terry DeKnikker (Shelly) of Lake Preston, Tim DeKnikker (Kayelynn) of Dell Rapids, and Kelly DeKnikker (Karla) of Sioux Falls.

Mick was preceded in death by his father, Lyle DeKnikker, and two brothers, Tony DeKnikker and Michael DeKnikker.
