Mass of Christian Burial for Joan B. Duffy, age 88 of Oldham, will be 10:30 AM April 10, 2024 Wednesday, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Madison, SD with Father Anthony Urban officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 9, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington, with a rosary at 7:00 PM. Interment will be at 2:00 PM April 10, 2024 at St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery in Oldham.
Joan Duffy was born April 3, 1936 to James and Francis (Kukar) Lass. She passed away April 3rd 2024 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls at the age of 88.
Joan was raised in Beresford, SD and graduated from Beresford High School in 1954. Joan attended Mount Marty Collage in Yankton, SD. She worked in Sioux Falls, until she met the love of her life James R. Duffy.
They were united in marriage on August 24th 1963. She and her husband Jim farmed and raised a family on the family homestead west of Oldham. Joan worked for many years as a cook at the school in Oldham. She was an active member of the St. Catherine’s Catholic Church and St. Catherine’s Alter Society.
Joan loved working in the fields and preparing meals. The coffee pot was always on for friends and neighbors. Joan loved going to all her grandson’s events.
Joan is survived by a son, Steven (Sandy) Duffy of Oldham, a daughter, Barbara (Mitch) Chapman of Spearfish, grandchildren, Brady Duffy, Marshall, MN, Tanner (Jennifer) Duffy of Oldham and Connor Chapman of Yankton, one great grandchild, Giovanni Chapman, sister, Patricia Teeman of Sioux Falls, brother-in-law, Bernard (Marlene) Duffy of Brookings, sister-in-law, Sarah Wetrich of Sioux Falls.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, six siblings and their spouses, Raymond (Pat) Lass. Gene (Connie) Lass, Marjorie (Richard) Bellach, Mary (Zane) Pilker, Karen (Gary) Lounsbery, Donna Lass, sister-in-law and husband, Mary (Vane) Miller, brother-in-law, Donald Wetrich.
