Warren Berg Obituary

Warren L. Berg, age 77, of Strandburg, SD, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024.  Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Tabor Lutheran Church, Strandburg. Vicar Emelia Enquist will officiate.  Music will be provided by Kathy Granquist as Organist and Paul Peterson as Soloist. The family is requested to meet at the church on Thursday by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service.   

Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Thursday. 

Burial will be at LaBolt Cemetery in LaBolt. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Military Funeral Honors Team of the SD Army, Strandburg Post #171 of the American Legion, Strandburg, and the Milbank Post #9 of the American Legion, Milbank.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the Coffee Crew at the Cafe. Active pallbearers will be Alec Berg, Nash Berg, Al Robish, Jeff Enquist, Taylor Berg,  and Jake Peterson. 

Warren was born on March 18, 1947, in Milbank, SD, to Leslie and Evelyn (Seehafer) Berg. He attended Strandburg High School and graduated in 1965. 

On June 16, 1967, Warren married Jeanne Schull in LaBolt, SD.  Warren was deployed to Vietnam later that same month.  He returned home in 1968 where he raised cattle near LaBolt and later made their home in Strandburg, SD. 

Warren's journey was marked by valor and compassion. As an Army veteran, he served his country with honor, embodying the spirit of duty and sacrifice. His commitment to service extended beyond his military years, as he continued to serve his community and loved ones.  He would help organize the 591st Engineering Company reunions which always brought him joy to be with his other “brothers”. 

Warren's love for family was evident as a devoted husband, standing by his wife through thick and thin, especially after she endured a stroke, demonstrating patience, tenderness, and resilience in caretaking. As a father and grandfather, Warren's presence was full of warmth and laughter, his sense of humor creating countless cherished memories. 

Beyond his roles within the family, Warren was known for his competitive/fun loving spirit. A passionate softball player, he brought enthusiasm and camaraderie to the field, leaving a lasting impression on teammates and opponents alike. His quick wit and playful humor made him a cherished friend and companion, always ready with a joke or a kind word to brighten someone's day. 

Warren's love for the simple pleasures of life was evident to all who knew him. He never missed a chance to have coffee with his buddies, fostering connections and building bonds that lasted a lifetime. Warren Berg leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and compassion that will continue to inspire and uplift us for generations to come. May his memory be a blessing to us all. 

Warren is survived by his wife, Jeanne, of Strandburg, SD; two sons, Shannon (Jenny) Berg, Watertown, SD, Lance (Bobbie) Berg, Stockholm, SD; four grandchildren, Ethan Berg, Alec Berg, Nash Berg, Faith Berg; two brothers, Kevin  Berg, LA Bolt, SD, and Jeff Berg, Hendrix, OK. 

Warren was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Evelyn Berg and one grandson, Nathan Berg.
