Virginia L. (Johnson) Walraven

Virginia L. (Johnson) Walraven, age 96, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Estelline Nursing & Care Center. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Pastor Dan Overbo will officiate.

Visitation will be on Thursday, May 9, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel. The service will be live-streamed via the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel website.

Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Active pallbearers will be hergrandsons: Troy Stimson, Terry Stimson, Ben Rorvick, Matt Rorvick, Lucas Ching, Adam Ching, Eric Pedersen and Casey Pedersen. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters: Tina Lonneman, Tanya Thompson, Tracy Bochek, Rachel Lanning and Mellisa Berg.

Virginia L. Johnson was born on October 8, 1927, in Watertown, SD, to Gustav and Emma (Lauen) Anenson. She graduated from Wallace High School. She went on to college in Aberdeen and received her degree in Education and went on to teach in country schools.

On September 7, 1947, she married Arlee B. Johnson in Watertown. She began working at Gambles and later Herbergers as a Credit Manager for six years. She started a family and quit working while she raised her five daughters. She loved quilting, baking and going on various trips with family. Virginia also loved to watch the birds in the summer and listen to Country Music. She worked for General Service Bureau for over 27 years where she retired from in 2001. She had various other jobs in Watertown through the years. Arlee passed away in 1986. Years later she married John Walraven. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown and Ladies VFW Auxiliary.

Virginia is survived by her daughters: Karla (Roger) Stimson, Dianne Healy, Linda (Roger) Ching, Brenda (Rick) Rorvick, Amy (Bryan) Pedersen; grandchildren: Tina (John) Lonneman, Troy (Dana)Stimson, Terry (Stacy) Stimson, Tanya Thompson, Tracy (Greg) Bochek, Rachel (Lucas) Lanning, Mellisa (Tyler) Berg, Ben (Hannah) Rorvick, Matt Rorvick, Lucas Ching, Adam Ching, Eric Pedersen and Casey Pedersen; great grandchildren: Luke, Megan, Austin, Mason, Cooper, Logan, Chase, Ethan, Kaitlyn, Macy, Cadence, Emma, Jase, Chloe, Kylie, Hailey, Zoey, Oakley, Jayda and Jaxon; sister-in–law, Wanda Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Arlee Johnson; her parents, Gustav and Emma Anenson; husband, John Walraven; her very special friend, Virgil Haase; seven brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law.
