Veirn D. Pederson, age 89, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Avantara Watertown. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Cornerstone Church in Watertown. Pastor Luke Smith will officiate. Music will be provided by Brandon Trupe as soloist. The family is requested to meet at the church on Monday by 1:00 p.m. for a prayer service.
Visitation will be at the Cornerstone Church in Watertown on Monday from 11:30 to 1:30.
Burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery in Duluth, MN. Honarry pallbearers will be Velda Widdoss and David Carlson. Active pallbearers will be Mark Pederson, Randy Staburg, Bradley Rossow, Ken Anderson, Ryan Anderson, and Ron Anderson.
Veirn was born on May 7, 1935, in Duluth, MN to Pete and Emma (Eckwell) Pederson. He attended school in Duluth until the age of 14, the family then moved to a farm in Barnum, MN. He graduated from Barnum High School in 1953. On the farm they had milk cows and some grain farming.
After graduation from high school he attended Vo-tech in Duluth, studying Welding and Horticulture. In 1990 they had a sale of the farm and everything. He then left and started to head across the state working seasonal jobs, landing in Claire City, MN and later moved to Boyd, MN. One of his jobs was working for Snortum Nursey, which he really enjoyed. His last job in Minnesota was driving gravel truck for Crosby Gravel Hauling. He later moved to Watertown, SD working some seasonal jobs. Veirn was the janitor at the Salvation Army before retiring.
Veirn liked to dance, tinkering in the garage, going to auction sales, going out for coffee, and listening to country music.
He is survived by two nieces, two nephews, and cousins; special friend, Gayla Anderson and her family.
Veirn was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Emma Pederson; one sister, Ilene Staberg; three brothers, Dale Pederson, Dean Pederson, Eugene Pederson; a special friend of many years, Lloyd Eschens.
