Sylveria Strain Obituary
** This is a reminder of the public Mass of Resurrection for Sylveria at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, August 15, 2016, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Watertown.
Sylveria A. Strain, age 98, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2016, at the hospital in Watertown. She was the widow of Lloyd Strain. A public visitation will be held at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel on Sunday, August 7, 2016, from 3-5 p.m. and private family funeral service will be held on Monday at the chapel. The family is requested to meet at the chapel by 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 8, 2016, for a prayer service. ** There will also be a public Mass of Resurrection on Monday, August 15, 2016, at 5:30 p.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church in Watertown. Fr. Michael Wensing will be the celebrant.
A private burial will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown, SD.
Sylveria was born on September 17, 1917, to Gabriel and Agnes (Lippert) Fox in Watertown, SD. She attended school in Kranzburg, SD.
On October 30, 1938, Sylveria was united in marriage to Lloyd Strain in Kranzburg. Following their marriage, the couple lived and worked on their farm by Kranzburg for several years. They eventually moved to Watertown in 1955. Lloyd passed away in 2015, after 77 years of marriage.
She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. She thoroughly enjoyed reading and visiting with her family. Sylveria was known for her excellent cooking. Her family was her entire life.
Sylveria is survived by her children: Pauline (Gene) Sturm, of Watertown, SD, Dale (Kathi) Strain, of Portland, OR, and Angela (Vern) Brenden, of Watertown, SD; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; her great-grandson, Justin Sturm; her parents; and two sisters, Cecilia Goodman and Kathryn Fox.
