Sue Heavey was born January 5, 1952 in Memphis, TN to Jim and Jo Walker. When she was nine yrs old, the family moved to Louisiana for a couple of years and then to Indianapolis, IN. In 1965, the family moved to Brooklyn Park, MN. She graduated from Osseo high school in Osseo, Minnesota, and attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis, graduating Summa cum laude with a degree in music education.

On June 6, 1975, Sue married Dennis Heavey at Brooklyn Park. They would celebrate 50 years of marriage this year. Sue met Dennis when he was playing in the Barn Boys Band with her brother, Al. Their first date was a Billy Graham Crusade. Their second date was finding something Dennis needed for one of his model airplanes!

Loving Jesus with all of her heart, Sue and Dennis have spent a lifetime serving the local church, working with youth, serving on worship teams and have over 50 years coordinating all kinds of children’s ministry activities and programs. They enjoyed arranging, producing and directing adult dinner theaters in their church. Many of them focused on a 50’s theme, called “Doo Wop Diners”. One of Susan’s obvious gifts was the ability to “include” everyone and anyone who wanted to be a part of the productions. No one who wanted to be involved in any way was ever left out. She always wanted the circle of those involved to be larger. She valued people and wanted each person to know they mattered.

Careers for Susan consisted of working for Tescom and Smith Equipment in Minneapolis, transferring to Watertown with Smith in 1980. Most recently, Susan and Dennis owned Still Waters, Inc., where they traveled and helped healthcare businesses use their database software. At the same time, Susan spent 12 yrs, from 2012 to 2024, serving on staff at the Wesleyan/Gracepoint Church in Watertown.

Having had special relationships with children, she was “Grandma Susie” to a few of them.

Sue loved to study God’s Word and participated in Bible studies. Other passions Sue had were crafting, card making, traveling and cruising. She loved eating out and spending time with friends. In recent years she and Dennis spent part of their winters in Florida.

Sue is survived by husband, Dennis, her brother, Allen (Diane) Walker of Rogers, MN; Dennis’ sister Sheila (Chuck) Dorff of Minneapolis, MN, several nieces and nephews: Brett (Bethany) Tim (Kristi) and Jessica Walker, Eric Dorff, Amber (Richard) Anderson, and Sarah Dorff; sister-in-law Pamela Heavey, her “Walker” cousins, mainly from Tennessee, numerous great nephews and nieces, and many special friends.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Jo Walker, Dennis’ parents, Donald and Sylvia Heavey and Dennis’ brother, Fred.
