Steve was born on October 5th, 1963 in Watertown, SD, born the youngest of 11 to Mandley and Selena (Wattier) Brist. He grew up in Watertown spending his youth with his siblings, riding his penny board, and playing sports. Steve attended Watertown High School and graduated Class of ‘82 and attended Lake Area Technical Institute for Building Trades Class of ‘84. Steve spent time serving in the National Guard and traveled to Korea with Team Spirit ‘89. He spent most of his life working numerous manufacturing and construction jobs at various businesses in Watertown. Steve also enjoyed bowling, shooting darts, or just shooting the sh*t. Steve met Mary Lentz in 1993 and together they created greatness, their daughter Amanda Jo, who was born in 1995.
Steve was best known for his love of his teams: the Denver Broncos, the LA Dodgers, and the BHSU Yellow jackets, beer, pizza, root beer floats, his cheesy picture-taking smile, and his “#1 daughter” Amanda. He was loved in many circles: his family, friends of many years, and the Cattleman’s crew. He loved to visit his daughter in California and other family members spanning from Montana to Minnesota. His other joys in life were watching his favorite movies and listening to a wide variety of CDs.
Whether you called him Dad, Papa, brother, uncle, nephew, or friend, his love for everyone was expansive. In return, Steve was the most loved Dad, Papa, brother, uncle, nephew, son, and friend. He leaves behind his daughter, Amanda Brist (Cody Cole) of Modesto, CA; Amanda’s sisters, who Steve loved as his own, Melissa (Matthew) Routh, Watertown, SD, Danielle Lentz, Sturgis, SD; grandchildren, Everytte, 9, Breckyn, 7, “Baby Bean” due in September; Mary Lentz, Sturgis, SD; four brothers, William Brist, Watertown, SD, Fay Brist, Missoula, MT, Timothy Brist, Watertown, SD, Phillip Brist, Watertown, SD, ; three sisters, Virginia Davis, Clark, SD, Martha Oxborough, Bloomington, MN, Carolyn Herman, Twin Falls, ID; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Mandley and Selena Brist, brother Leonard “Lenn” Brist, sisters, Donna Brist and Cynthia Brist, and several other family members.
