Stanley D. Clark, age 73, of Monticello, IL, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025, in Watertown, SD. Memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday June 21, 2025, at The Gathering Place in Monticello, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Stan Clark’s memory to The Special Olympics and/or your local food pantry.
Stan was born on December 12, 1951, in Maryville, MO to Joseph and Anna Lee (Grimsley) Clark. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend, known for his kindness, work ethic, and passion for hiking and running.
Throughout his life, Stan was deeply dedicated to his family and always prioritized their well-being. He remained actively involved in their lives – whether coaching, offering guidance, or lending a helping hand – and truly cherished those moments. Stan enjoyed a successful business career, most recently at Unilever, before retiring at an early age. Retirement allowed him the opportunity to travel, explore, compete, reconnect with family across the country, and care for his aging parents. Stan had some places that brought him peace and joy, among his favorites was the Grand Canyon, and he was fortunate enough to visit them repeatedly over the last 20+ years. Goal-oriented by nature, Stan hiked the Arizona Trail (800 miles) for his 60th birthday and completed a half-marathon in all fifty states. He was also just three races away from finishing an ultra-race (50k) in every state. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Stan is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Betsy Clark; two sons, Spencer (Fallon Farokhi) Clark and Evan (Katelynn) Clark; five cherished grandchildren, Sydney, Tripp, Harper, Quinn, and Leighton; sister, Sue Irminger; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents.
His presence and laugh will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but especially by his family, who were the center of his world.
