Shirley M. Pratt

Shirley M. Pratt, age 88, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at a local care center.  Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown.  Captain Dennis and Kelly Jolly will officiate. 

Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown, SD.

Shirley M. Gabert was born in Watertown, SD, on February 11, 1933, to Ernest and Mary Gabert. Shirley attended nursing school and worked for the state hospital in Witchita, KS, before moving to Oklahoma, where she met Ernest. They were married on April 18, 1959, in Witchita, KS, and then moved to Peoria, IL, where all of their children were born. They later moved to Grand Forks, ND, before settling in Watertown, SD, in 1966. Shirley worked as a nurse at St. Ann’s Hospital for many years, and then began working in the kitchen at a local school.

In her spare time, Shirley enjoyed crocheting, making quilts, crafts, canning and jam making. She was also very active in the Salvation Army.

Shirley is survived by her son, John Pratt of Waverly, SD; Eight grandchildren and  nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Pratt; her parents; her son, James; her daughter, Laura; one grandchild, Austin Ray; and her siblings, Dottie, James, and Ruth.
