On September 19, 1942, Ronayne DeLyle Anderson was born to Victor and Linda (Jorgensen) Anderson in Vienna, SD. He was the second of six children. At only sixteen years old, Ronayne made his first solo truck trip into Chicago. This began his career in trucking which would last 51 years where he was known by his CB handle, Pilgrim. Ronayne worked for various employers before buying his own truck in January of 1996. Occasionally, the girls would ride along on day trips with Ronayne. When Marlene had the opportunity, she would accompany Ronayne on longer trips. In May of 2009 he decided to sell his truck and retire.
Ronayne and Marlene (Knutson) were married on January 22, 1965, at the Methodist Church in Lake Preston, SD. The couple would spend 59 years together and raise two daughters, Vickie and Sheila. In 1966, the young couple moved to Wisconsin until returning to Erwin, SD, in 1972. From 1976 to 1978, the family lived in Oregon, but trucking always brought Ronayne home to South Dakota.
After his retirement, Ronayne leaned into the joy he got from camping, fishing, and hunting pheasants. He and Marlene traveled often and would spend winters in Arizona. He entered the Silver Plains Assisted Living in Lake Preston for two years before moving to The Neighborhoods at Brookview in Brookings in August of 2022.
Ronayne is survived by his wife, Marlene of Brookings, SD; two children, Vickie (Scott) Nelson of Badger, SD, and Sheila (Sherwin) Rau of Java, SD; seven grandchildren: Dustin Schmidt, Jaci (Mike) Schmidt, Lane Schmidt, Sierra Schmidt, Shanda (Zach Grosz) Rau, Shane (Holly) Rau, and Tyler Rau; nine great-grandchildren; three siblings: John (Nancy) Anderson, Cheri Carlson, and Lonnie Beyer; and one sister-in-law, Mary Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Linda (Jorgensen) Anderson as well as two siblings, Rochelle (Stan) Lundquist and Ricky Anderson.
