Ronald "Ron" Kaufman

Ronald “Ron” Kaufman, age 69, of Oldham, SD, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in Hudson, SD.

A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Ron’s alfalfa field (1/2 mile west of his farm, 43595 218th Street, Oldham). Father Richard Baumberger will officiate with music provided by Barbee Hagemann as vocalist.

After the service, family and friends are invited back to Ron’s warehouse for desserts and refreshments with his family. Anyone who is not able to join us at the field is welcome to stop at the warehouse.

Ronald John Kaufman was born to Laverne and Vivian (Spader) Kaufman on May 26, 1955. He was the third child and oldest son of seven, so he quickly took on farm responsibilities. These responsibilities became a passion and ultimately his life’s work.

Ron graduated from De Smet High School in 1973 and was blessed to return to the farm near Oldham where he farmed and raised livestock until the time of his death.

Ron was united in marriage to Kathy Begalka on December 27, 1986. Among many other things, Ron and Kathy shared a passion for Shorthorn cattle, soil health-focused agriculture, and their beloved family and friends. Kathy even slowly brought Ron around to enjoying sheep or as Ron called them, “prairie maggots.”

Ron and Kathy were blessed with three daughters, Stephanie, Britney and Kiley, two sons-in-law, and a granddaughter and grandson who were Ron’s pride and joy.

Ron loved his family and friends. He treated everyone with respect and kindness, and truly tried to make a positive difference in the lives of others. He would often go out of his way to help others - even strangers - and when his daughters needed something, he’d drop everything to be there for them.

Ron is survived by his wife Kathy, and daughters Stephanie (Justin); Britney; and Kiley (Dustin); granddaughter Suttyn Rae; grandson Dax Jon; his siblings, neighbors and friends, many nieces and nephews, and countless customers who he considered dear friends.

Meeting him at the gates of heaven are his mom and dad Vivian and Vern, father-in-law and mother-in-law Rolland and Delores Begalka, and many beloved family members and friends who went before him.
