Roger Steuck Obituary

Roger Steuck, age 79, of Summit, SD, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at New Life Evangelical Free Church in Watertown. Pastor Glenn Walker will officiate.  Music will be provided by Mary Modica as pianist.  

Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. 

Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.  Military graveside honors will be contacted by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown and the Ellsworth Air Force Base Military Funeral Honors Team.  Active pallbearers will be Dustin Nelson, Scott Kneeland, Cal Pies, Simon Pies, Josh Wohlleber, and Steve Griffee.

Roger was born on September 5, 1945, in Watertown, SD, to Marvin Steuck and Dorothy (Clayton) Arnold. He attended school in Summit and some in Watertown. After graduation he joined the Air force first as a mechanic and then in fueling.

On January 27, 1965, Roger married Josephine Flanigan in Garden City, SD. Together they lived the military life and moved all over the country. In the United States he was stationed at Dover DL, AFB, Lockbourne OH, AFB, Forbes KS, AFB, Aurora CO, AFB, Ellsworth SD, AFB, and retired after 22 years from Grand Forks, ND.  When overseas he was in Japan, Vietnam, Taiwan, and England.

After retiring from the Air Force, Roger went to the VO tech in Watertown to learn welding as something to do and be self-sufficient. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had quite the system for taking care of his tomato plants.  Roger was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion.  He was also active with the Dakota Territory Gun Show and he was a member of the Grant County Soil Conservation. 

Roger is survived by his wife, Josephine, of Summit; daughter, Angie (Lonnie) Quale of Summit; daughter-in-law, Michaela (Myron) Namkin of Watertown; three grandchildren: Amanda (Jeremy) Nygaard of Watertown, Tessa Beaner of Summit, and Steven (April) Griffee of Summit; and great-grandchildren: Brian, Scarlett, Olivia, Kaleb, Kohl, Trevor, Slaine, Maddi, Cade, Cree, and Sam

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, son Greg Steuck, and two brothers Duane Steuck and Harvey Steuck.
