Rodney D. Larson, Age 76, of Hayti, SD, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025. Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Rev. Randy Eisenbeisz will officiate.
Visitation will be at 11-1 on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Hayti,SD.
Rodney was born on October 14, 1949, in Watertown, SD, to Hans Christ and Arlene (Pearson) Larson. He was baptized, confirmed at Hayti Lutheran Church. He graduated from Hayti High School in 1967. He played basketball all through high school and was proud to be a Hayti Redbird.
On January 13, 1971, Rodney married Sandra Kaye Amundson, the love of his life, in Hayti, SD. After getting married they started their family as he worked for his father on the farm. Later he worked for the Hamlin County Highway Department in 1980 until 2004. He started working with Nitteberg Construction as a truck driver in 2004 and retired in 2019.
Rodney loved hunting, fishing, driving with his good friend, Schooney; bowling, playing pool, and watching westerns with Gunsmoke being his favorite. He spent many hours enjoying time in his garage. In his younger years he greatly loved his horses, King and Lindy.
Rodney is survived by his wife, Sandra Kaye Larson, Hayti; his two daughters, Stacey (Corry) Schaefer, Hayti, Jessica (Al) Young, Watertown; one son, Joseph Larson, Watertown; 6 grandchildren, Jordan (Steph) Ladwig, Michael Schaefer, Taylor Schaefer, Myles Larson, Landon Young, Ashley Young; 6 great-grandchildren, Axel Ladwig, Maverick Ladwig, Josie Ladwig, , Presely Scott, Jordyn Scott, and Carter Scott; one uncle, Lynn Pearson, whom he was very close with, many; cousins, 2 brother-in-laws and 3 sister-in-laws.
Rodney was preceded by his parents Hans and Arlene and father and mother-in-law, Boyd and Gladys Amundson
