Robert "Bob" Mooney

Robert "Bob" Mooney, age 72, of Watertown, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at the local hospital. 

Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Robert “Bob” Mooney was born on November 26, 1952, to Harold and Mary-Catherine (Kupperion) Mooney. Bob went to Watertown High School, where he graduated in 1971. After graduating from high school, Bob attended USD and graduated in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in political science.

After graduation Bob worked for the planning district for a while and later worked at the Jamestown Sun for two years. Bob came back to Watertown and worked at the Watertown Public Opinion for 38 years until 2016, when he retired.

While in college, Bob met the love of his life, Karen Boggs. After a year of dating, they married in Naples, FL, on August 16, 1974. Together they had three children, Josh, Stacy, and Sam. Bob and Karen celebrated over 50 years of marriage.

Family was important to Bob. Bob coached his sons’ baseball team until his son Josh was old enough to take over coaching. This allowed his sons to spend more time together and become not just brothers but close friends. His daughter Stacy was the apple of his eye and could do no wrong. When his grandchildren came around, he would tell them stories. Bob loved his grandchildren and would share stories about them in the Saturday paper.

Bob loved to be on the computer and watching the television. Bob couldn’t turn away if there was an old western playing. Another pastime for Bob was cheering on the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Twins. To Bob, no other teams mattered and was a lifelong cheese head.

Bob is survived by his wife, Karen; three children, Josh (Kari) Mooney, of Watertown, SD; Stacy (Tim) Gutierrez, of Keller TX and Sam (Audrey) Mooney, of Watertown, SD; 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, sister, Pat Kumm, and four nephews.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents.
