Ricky (Rick) Selmer Lauen of Henry, South Dakota passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at Sanford Medical Center Sioux Falls, SD. He was 64 years old.
There will be a celebration of life gathering Saturday, July 10, 2021, from 1-5 at the Wallace Community Center in Wallace, SD.
Ricky was born April 14, 1957, at Webster, SD to Selmer (Sam) and Harriet Lauen, the oldest of three children. He was baptized and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran church in Wallace, SD. Ricky grew up on a dairy farm southwest of Wallace, he attended grade school in Garden City and Wallace and Junior High and High School at Webster High School with the class of 1975. After high school Ricky continued to help on the family farm and was also employed by the Wallace Farmer Elevator. On May 27, 1977, Ricky was united in marriage to Debra (Debbie) Weyh. To this union two children were born, Melissa in 1977 and Nicholas in 1982. In the years following, Ricky was employed by Harris Grain Co. Farms and US Express trucking in Oakes, ND. After divorcing, Ricky would eventually make his home in Henry, SD, where he resided until the time of his death.
Ricky enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, and was a lifelong Harley Davidson fan, which he owned several of throughout the years. Most of all he loved his grandchildren and the time he was able to spend with them.
Ricky is survived by a daughter, Melissa(Bill) Hoflen of Rutland, ND and a son Nicholas (Nikki) Lauen of Rapid City, SD, his Grandchildren: Bryanna, Colton, and Noah Lauen, and Dane Sitts; a sister, Marge (Frank) Blais of Watertown, SD; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ricky was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Randall (Randy), and his grandparents.
