Phyllis J. Schmeling

Phyllis Jean Schmeling, age 96, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at a local care center.  Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in South Shore, SD.  Rev. Ken Nelson will officiate. 

Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Burial will be at St. Luke’s Cemetery, Germantown Township in South Shore, SD.  Honorary pallbearers will be all great nieces and nephews, Stoneybrook Assisted Living Center Staff and Avantara, Watertown Staff. Active pallbearers will be Randy Schmeling, Joel Schmeling, Charles Noeldner and Jim Noeldner.

Phyllis was born on August 4, 1927, in South Shore, SD to Harry and Edith (Zielsky) Schmeling.  She was raised on the family farm near South Shore and attended country school.

Phyllis helped her parents on the family farm for many years. She moved to Watertown and worked at Golden Living Center for 30+ years and then volunteered for many more years.  She loved to bake and do embroidery work.

Phyllis is survived by two nephews and a niece, Randy (wife Rita), Joe and Janet Pray, and several great nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Edith Schmeling; one brother, Dale Schmeling; one sister-in-law, Isabelle Schmeling; and one niece, Judy Salverson.
