She started school in first grade in Sully County, but that first year of school saw a tornado strike the family farm, destroying all the farm buildings except the house. The family then moved to a sheep ranch where she and her sister rode 3 1/2 miles to school on horseback. The next spring, the family moved closer to Gettysburg where she attended school until the 5th grade. When she was in the 5th grade, another tragedy struck the family when their home burned down. Soon, the family moved once again, this time to a farm near Bryant. She graduated from Bryant High School in 1944 and attended Eastern State Teachers College in Madison (now, Dakota State University). She graduated from Huron College with a BA degree. Muriel taught in rural South Dakota schools for many years, the last several in Clark. She was awarded The Teacher of the Year by her students in 1991, the same year she retired from teaching after 43 years. In 1945, Muriel married Elwood Resick of Vienna and they had three daughters, Gwen, Tamara and Barbara. In 1961, the family moved to Clark, where they bought acreage just outside of town. In 1995, Elwood passed away and Muriel moved to Watertown in 1998. Muriel taught Sunday school for many years. She was very creative in delivering her message to her students. She loved being a ventriloquist and bringing her nephew "Danny" to help deliver God's word. She was also an avid reader ... a lover of mysteries and of romance and western novels. She also thoroughly enjoyed working a good crossword puzzle or other word games.

Another favorite hobby of hers was watching Professional Bull Riding. On her 90th birthday, she was invited to the PBR event in Sioux Falls where she was a guest at the event's reception. She flirted with many of the young bull riders that day and lots of pictures were taken. On Wednesday nights, you could always find Muriel at the Watertown Senior Citizens Center attending the dances. This is where she made many friends and especially enjoyed her "M&M" group! Muriel loved to travel, visiting the United Kingdom, Mexico, Hawaii, Canada, Washington, D.C. and made many trips to the Black Hills and to Colorado. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, Retired Teachers and Watertown Concert Series. She is survived by her daughters Gwen Resick (Mick) Rennich, Louisville, CO,

Tamara Resick (Allen) Stoltenburg, Watertown, SD and Barbara (Al) Rohrbach, Pierre, SD; her grandchildren: Haley Stoltenburg, Chad and Blake Rennich and Hudson Rohrbach;

two sisters, Virginia Cluts, Frankfort, SD, and Marilyn Anderson, Aiken, SC; one sister-in-law, Leona Resick, St. James, MN. Muriel was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood; her parents, Wilbert and Bernice Lowe;

her sisters and their husbands: Vivian and Maynard Juntunen, Laurel and Jim Ryan, and her brother Mervin Lowe and his wife Betty, and brothers-in-law Dean Anderson and George Cluts.
