Funeral services for Maynard Stormo, age 82, of Watertown, SD will be at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2007 in the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, Watertown, SD. Rev. Tom Christenson will officiate. Maynard passed away on May 29, 2007 at his residence. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be Maynard's grandchildren, the Magic Mile Lion's Club, and the Soil Conservation Tree Crew. Active pallbearers will be: Gordon Stormo, Kenneth Comes, Brad Drake, Dean Hoffman, Verlyn Nordseth, and Howard Ostlund. Music will be provided by A.J. Sherrill, organist, and Brad Drake, soloist. Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Friday preceding services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday by 3:00 p.m. for a prayer service. Maynard was born on July 29, 1924 at Troy, SD to Carl S. and Martha (Larson) Stormo. He married Beverly Francia Jellis on June 17, 1944 at her parent's home near Waverly, SD. The couple farmed in the Hayti and Waverly, SD area from 1944 to 1990. Maynard was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer and the Magic Mile Lion's Club. He served on the Waverly Consolidated School District Board for twenty years, the Waverly Township Board, FHA Board, the Codington County Weed Board, and thoroughly enjoyed his fifteen years with the Codington County Conservation District tree crew. He also was a director with the Codington County and DeSmet Farm Mutual Insurance Company, was a charter board member of Sioux Rural Water System, and was a former deacon, trustee, and committee member at Grace Lutheran Church. Maynard especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren compete in various sports and camping/vacationing with them to various places. He also made it a point to share the joys of farming with each grandchild and taught them to respect and enjoy the great outdoors. Maynard is survived by his wife, Beverly, of Watertown, SD; two sons: Douglas and is wife, Diane (Mack) Stormo, of Watertown, SD and David and his wife, Kimberly (Lavin) Stormo, of Delafield, WI; three daughters: Katherine and her husband, David Mahnke, of Eugene, OR, Kathleen Nelson of Sammamish, WA, and Kimberly and her husband, Kenneth Turbak, of Watertown, SD; one brother, Orvil and his wife, Shirley Stormo, of Watertown, SD; one sister, Leona Baker of Watertown, SD; thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Martha; one brother, Herbert and two nieces: Herbert's daughter, Deborah, and Leona's daughter, Susan.
