Mavis (Jensen) Leonhardt moved to her heavenly home on April 1st 2024 while under hospice care at the United Living Center in Brookings SD.

Mavis Ardell Jensen was born March 21, 1939, to Segurd and Clara (Koepp) Jensen at their farm home East of Oldham, SD joining an older brother Jim. She grew up on the family farm west of Oldham and attended Oldham Public Schools, graduation in 1957, after which she attended General Beadle Teachers College for one year.

During her childhood years, Mavis received Jesus as her Savior. She followed in her believers baptism and became a lifelong member of Oldham Baptist Church.

Mavis worked at the American State bank in Oldham.

While in high school, she met the love of her life, Dale Leonhardt. They were married February 14, 1959 and begun their life of farming together. In 1965, they moved to their farm where they still resided.

In 1970, God blessed them through adoption with their daughter Lisa, and again in 1973 with their son Bruce.

Mavis was a diligent and meticulous homemaker and an excellent seamstress, making clothing for herself and her children; a gracious hostess; an active member in the church family and community. She was an outstanding farm wife, an incredible support to her husband. Mavis was described as the energizer bunny and always up and being productive for her grandchildren and getting her many tasks done. She enjoyed scrap booking, making photo albums, and attending her grandchildren’s various activities.

This year, Mavis and Dale celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary, and Mavis just recently reached the milestone of her 85th birthday.

She will be missed dearly by her husband, Dale; her daughter, Lisa and her sons, Austin, Blake, Connor, and Derek Hoffman. Her son, Bruce, his wife Jenni, and their children, Riley, Logan, and Landon Leonhardt. Sisters-in-law Sonja Wood Sanders and Linda Leonhardt her many nieces and nephews, and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Segurd and Clara Jensen, brother, Jim and sister-in-law, Joanne Jensen, brother-in-law, Clair and sister-in-law, Phyllis Leonhardt, brother-in-law, Joy Leonhardt and Gary Wood, father-in-law, Roland and mother-in-law, Gladys Leonhardt and many aunts and uncles.
