Marlin was born on September 20, 1935, to William and Grace (Limberg) Kruger at his home in Antelope Valley. He grew up on the family farm, attended rural school, and from a young age developed a strong work ethic. He was always willing to lend a helping hand—not only to his parents on the farm, but to anyone in need.
At the age of 10, Marlin moved with his family to a farm east of Tunerville. After 66 years of living on the family farm Marlin and Viola moved to Watertown in August of 2011. He was a lifelong and faithful member of Antelope Valley Reformed Church.
Marlin was united in marriage to Viola Prins on June 2, 1957, at the Baptist Church in Clear Lake. Together they raised a family of 2 sons and built a life centered around farming, working side by side until their retirement. In addition to his life on the farm, Marlin proudly served his country in the United States Army, with time stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Fort Lewis, Washington.
Following retirement, Marlin discovered a love for fishing, a pastime he truly enjoyed. He also took pleasure in attending threshing bees and auctions. Farming remained close to his heart, and he was often found keeping a watchful eye on his fields and livestock. Throughout the years, he also had a special connection to all his animals from work horses, livestock and especially his cherished dogs that worked with him on the farm over the years.
Marlin is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Viola Kruger; his sons, Wayne (Rhonda) Kruger of Watertown, SD, and Darin (Deana) Kruger of Sioux Falls, SD; his grandchildren, Brittney (Zach) Aman, Michael (Mariah) Kruger, Logan (Amy) McKenzie, Cooper (Hannah) McKenzie, and Brock (Kadie Huls) Kruger; and his sister, Jane Mogard of Ames, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Grace Kruger, and his brother, Vern Kruger.
Marlin will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his willingness to help others, and his deep love for his family, his farm, and his community.
