Mark Owen Thomsen, age 75 of Lake Preston passed away, Monday, August 26, 2024, at his home. Arrangements by Johnson-Henry/Crawford-Osthus Funeral Home of Arlington, Lake Preston, Oldham.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mark Owen Thomsen. Mark was born in Lake Preston, SD in 1949 to Nickolas and Bernice Thomsen. Mark spent his youth in the fields and playing sports such as baseball, football, and basketball for the Lake Preston Divers. After graduating from high school in 1967, Mark served in the US Army from 1970-1975 as an Ordinanceman in Okinawa, Japan, and Fort Riley, Kansas. Upon completion of military service, Mark moved to Portland, Oregon and for over 30 years he helped raise his daughter and worked in various careers such as Real Estate, Property Management, and Legal Information Technology. In 2010 Mark moved back home to South Dakota to escape the busy city life and to enjoy his beloved home town. Always a caregiver, Mark found work at the Center for Independence, and for over 10 years he truly enjoyed the residents and his job. Outside of work, Mark kept busy chatting with friends at the local cafe, tinkering in his shop, helping others with projects, and maintaining good relationships with his close friends and family. We will miss you Mark, you were loved. His favorite saying was “no troubles”, and that is how he lived his life.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents Nickolas and Bernice Thomsen, and his brothers Neil and Bruce Thomsen. He is survived by his daughter Angela Baugh, his sister Lorel Bresko, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14th from 12-2pm at the Bad Boys club in Lake Preston.
