Marilyn Ann Kunkel, age 75, of Watertown, SD passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023, at Prairie Lakes Hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at St. Martins Lutheran Church in Watertown. Pastor Ben Radtke will officiate. Music will be provided by Matt Weseloh as organist and Amy Weseloh as soloist.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Burial will be at the Hanover Cemetery in Hanover, ND, at a later date. Active pallbearers will be Kyle Dally, Rob Mees, Trent Keller, Brian Rupp, Chris Zubke and Braydon Kunkel.
Marilyn was born on October 28, 1947, in Minot, ND, to Lyle and Viola (Henke) Weist. She attended Granville High School in North Dakota, graduating in 1965. She then went on to Minot State University.
On December 17, 1966, Marilyn married Derwin Kunkel in Granville, ND where the couple started their family. They moved to Freeport, IL for a few years before moving to Buffalo, MN where she worked at the courthouse in the Clerk of Courts. In 1985, the family moved to Watertown, SD, where she worked at Herbergers and then served as secretary for St. Martin’s Lutheran Church and the school until she retired in 2013.
Marilyn loved her flower garden, her four legged friends, her lunch dates with close friends, and adored spending time with her family.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Derwin; her children Curtis (Deanna) Kunkel of Watertown, SD, Missy (Todd) Siedschlag of Madison, MN, Ryan (Errin) Kunkel of Round Hill, VA, and Kristen (Rob) Mees of Alpena, SD; one brother Jerry (Phyllis) Weist of Bismark, ND; brother-in-law’s Darrell Kunkel, Dale (Gerry) Kunkel, and Richard Kunkel; sister-in-law Gale McGuire; grandchildren Nicole, Chris (Natasha) Zubke, Emily (Travis) Schanbeck, Katie, Taylor, Kalie, Hayden, Sky (Ryan) Sprecher, A’aleiya, Dechlan, Naima, Kaitlyn, Kamryn, and Karly; great-grandchildren Parker, Ryder, Autumn, Remmington, Kyle, Riley, Makenna, Kora, Raygen, and Andi.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-laws Fred and Marie Kunkel; sister-in-laws Cathy and Mona Kunkel, Aunt Beatrice Henke, Helen Lee, and Uncle Donald Weist.
