Marilyn Benthin Obituary

Marilyn M. Benthin, age 76, of Henry, SD, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at a local care center in Watertown, SD. She was the widow of Lloyd Benthin. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 24, 2016, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Pastor Janet Miller will officiate. Music will be provided by A. J. Sherrill as organist with LeeAnn Maag as soloist. The family is requested to meet at 10:30 a.m. at the chapel on Monday for a family prayer service.





Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and also prior to services on Monday.





Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Active pallbearers will be: Jeremy Benthin, Justin Benthin, Dean Benthin, Danny Benthin, Brandon Reichling and Wayne Briggs.





Marilyn was born on May 2, 1940, in Watertown, SD, to Howard and Esther (Krause) Hof.





On August 20, 1955, Marilyn was united in marriage to Lloyd Benthin at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown. They lived in Shreveport, LA, where Lloyd was stationed in the military. Following his discharge, the couple moved to Watertown. Marilyn stayed at home to raise their children and then was employed at Watertown Monument Works.





She enjoyed crafts, painting, crocheting, gardening, canning and cooking. She also enjoyed playing board games with her family. Marilyn loved spending time with her dog, Prancer. Marilyn and Lloyd shared a special bond, spending many days together enjoying each other's company, until his passing in 2010.

Marilyn is survived by her children: Larry (Sandi) Benthin of Watertown, SD, Kevin (Tracie) Benthin of Estelline, SD, and Cindy (Scott) Reichling of Watertown, SD; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her brother, Harold (Ann) Hof, of Columbia, MO; and her sister, Eloise (Tony) Nicolay, of Hutchinson, MN.





She was preceded in death by her husband; two children, Gary and Timothy; her parents; one sister, Marlys LaBelle; and one brother, Robert Hof.
