Marie J. Shepherd

Marie J. Shepherd, age 82, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at a local care center. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown, SD.  Pastor Glen Walker will officiate. The family is requested to meet at the chapel by 10:30 a.m. for a prayer service. The service will be Live- Streamed via Crawford-Osthus Facebook page and website.

Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, from 5-7 p.m.

Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Watertown, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be: Trystan Vrieze, Scarlett Shepherd, and Morgyn Vrieze. Active pallbearers will be: Patrick Shepherd, Nicole Gwin, Crystal Vrieze, Jonathan Shepherd, Aleah Shepherd, Abigail Shepherd, Zachary Shepherd, Zane Shepherd and EmmaJane Shepherd.

Marie was born on February 28, 1939, in Watertown, SD, to William and Delores (Schmidt) Cordell. She attended rural country school in Watertown. Marie met Lloyd while working at Coca Cola. Lloyd and Marie were married on October 20, 1967. and resided in Watertown. Marie worked at the 55+ Center and later at Prairie Lakes Care Center where she worked in the laundry department for many years until retiring in 2005. Marie moved in with her son Jerry’s family and helped to raise his children while Jerry was deployed. After her retirement, Marie volunteered in the daycare of MOPS for the local organization.

She attended Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church and Immaculate Conception Church and has been attending New Life Evangelical Free Church for many years.

Marie loved to spend time with her family and her grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoyed doing word searches.

Marie is survived by her children, Linda Goethe, Sioux City, IA, Jerry (Emily) Shepherd, Watertown, SD, and Larry (Melanie) Shepherd, Watertown, SD; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her brothers, Bernard Cordell and Theodore Cordell, both of Watertown, SD; her sister, Teresa Waba, Madison, SD; and her sister-in-law, Judy Cordell, Watertown, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Delores Cordell; her husband, Lloyd; one infant son, Michael; twin sister, Marian Cordell; and two brothers, Milton and Alfred Cordell.
