Ludelle Prouty Obituary

Ludelle A. Prouty, age 92, of Hayti, SD, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at a local hospital. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. at New Hope Lutheran Church in rural Hayti. Rev. Randy Eisenbeisz will officiate. Music will be provided by Stephanie Sauder as organist, Joseph Prouty and Clarissa Roemen as vocalists. The family is requested to meet at the church at 1:00 p.m. for a prayer service.  The funeral service will be livestreamed via our website.

Visitation will be at the New Hope Lutheran Church in rural Hayti on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Burial will be at New Hope Lutheran Cemetery in rural Hayti. Honorary pallbearers will be Clarissa Roeman, Barbara Claritt, Erin Walock, Rachel Kreger and Amber Reinesch. Active pallbearers will be Joseph Prouty, Martin Prouty, Brandon Prouty, Jason Prouty, Tyler Fletcher and Kyle Clement.

Ludelle was born on March 6, 1933, in rural Bryant, SD, to Martin H. and Mabel (Marsh) Fedt. She attended Bryant High school and graduated in 1951. She worked as secretary for Hamlin Superintendent’s Office and attended classes for teaching.

On June 29, 1956, Ludelle married Roger C. Prouty at Garfield Lutheran Church in rural Bryant, SD. The couple farmed in the Bryant and Hayti, SD area and continued to farm in the area for all their married life.  Roger passed on August 2, 2019, and Ludelle continued to live on the farm until entering the Village at Harmony Hill just six months ago.

She was an active member of New Hope Lutheran Church, Merry Mixers Extension Club, and YMW. She was involved in the New Hope Lutheran Circle group. She enjoyed bird watching, gardening, collecting owl figurines, chatting on the iPad and scrolling Facebook and using Facebook messenger. She would send pictures through her iPad to her family and friends. Ludelle enjoyed collecting plates, spoons, thimbles, coins, stamps, and following Hamlin School athletic teams. Ludelle and Roger enjoyed many trips traveling throughout the United States and Europe and attending many of their grandchildren’s activities and celebrations. 

Ludelle is survived by her son, Jerald (Cindy) Prouty, of Bryant, SD; two daughters, Denise (Tim) Fletcher, Sioux Falls, SD, and  Renee (Jeff) Clement, Miller, SD;  daughter in law, Marcia (Tim Goodwin), Hill City, SD; one sister, Marilyn Torper, Watertown, SD; eleven grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Ludelle was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; one son, Donald; parents, Martin and Mabel; one brother-in-law, Wayne Torper; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
