Lois Gunderson Obituary

Lois Harriet Gunderson, age 95, of Watertown, SD passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at a local care center.

She was the widow of Orrin L. Gunderson.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown.

Rev. Paul Janke will officiate.

Music will be provided by Carol Janke, organist.

The family is requested to meet at the church on Saturday by 1:00 p.m. for a prayer service.

Visitation will be at Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Friday from 4-7 p.m. and will continue at the church on Saturday prior to the services.



Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of St. Martin's Mission Group and Ladies Aid.

Active pallbearers will be Lois' grandchildren:

Danae`, Joule, Chadwick, Jared, and Quintin Oldenburg, Travis O. Gunderson and Coby Smith.



Memorials may be directed to St. Martin's Lutheran School Tuition Assistance.

Lois was born on February 13, 1919, in rural Codington County to Elmer A. and Bertha (Zick) Redlin, the second of four children.

She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church of Rauville.

She attended school at Rauville District #13 and in addition to helping her parents on their potato and grain farm, she belonged to Rauville 4-H and home extension clubs.



On June 28, 1942, Lois married Orrin LaRue Gunderson at St. John's Lutheran Church of Rauville and this union was blessed with two children:

Colleen Kay and Orrin Odell.

For forty years the couple farmed together on the Gunderson Homestead until their retirement in 1982.

Lois continued to reside on the farm and enjoyed the fruits of their labors until the death of her husband.



Lois was a charter member of the ladies aid in which she held several offices and taught Sunday School at St. John's Lutheran Church of Mazeppa.

Later, she became an active member of St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church's Ladies Mission Group and Ladies Aid, in which she also held several offices.



Lois was an excellent cook and seamstress.

She enjoyed visiting and interacting with people.

She also enjoyed following world events.



She is survived by: a daughter Colleen Kay (Dennis) Oldenburg of Appleton, WI; a son Orrin Odell of South Shore, SD; seven grandchildren:

Danae` Oldenburg, Joule (Jill) Oldenburg, Chadwick (Angela) Oldenburg, Jared (Aimee) Oldenburg, Quintin Oldenburg, Travis O. (Yolie) Gunderson and Coby (Dallas) Smith; twelve great-grandchildren:

Alexandra, Ares, Olivia, Evelyn, Evan, Shea, Isabella, Paytra, and Owen Oldenburg; AlaraLynn and Brandin Gunderson; Lance Smith; foster great-grandchild Luzanthony; one brother Donald (Virginia) Redlin; one sister-in-law Irene Redlin; and many nieces and nephews.



Preceding her in death were her husband Orrin of 61 years; her parents Elmer A. and Bertha Redlin; brothers Roland and Elmer Redlin, Jr.; and two great-grandchildren Josephina and Aletta Oldenburg.
