Lloyd A. Hanson, age 85, of Canton, SD, formerly of Watertown, SD, passed away Friday, October 26, 2018, in Canton, SD.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 29, 2018, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Rev. Steve Anderson will officiate.
Music will be provided by Lynne Osthus as organist with Don Seim as soloist.
The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Monday by 10:30 a.m. for a prayer service. Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Sunday, October 28, 2018, from 3-5 p.m. and prior to services at the chapel on Monday. A private family burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Honorary pallbearers will be all of Lloyd's special nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers will be Lloyd's grandchildren: Spencer Borns, Logan Dolen, Gabe Dolen, Kade Scott, Delaney Scott and Max Bates, and his son-in-law, Greg Bates. Lloyd was born on April 22, 1933, in Hayti, SD, to Thomas and Ruth (West) Hanson.
He attended school in Watertown.
He then went to work at Swift & Co. where he met Virginia. On April 1, 1961, Lloyd married Virginia Cram in Watertown.
The couple moved to Florence, SD, where Lloyd began farming.
They later moved back to Watertown where he co-owned Whooleys Auto Sales and Mobile Homes and began selling real estate.
Lloyd and Virginia owned Swiss Colony in Watertown and Sioux Falls.
After retirement, the couple moved to Canton, SD, to be near his children and grandchildren, where he enjoyed driving the school bus. He enjoyed fixing and building things for his family and working on projects for his children.
He cherished his family and enjoyed the time spent with them. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Virginia of Canton, SD; his children, Gina Scott of Canton, SD, and Julie (Greg) Bates of Harrisburg, SD; six grandchildren: Spencer (Erin), Logan (Stephanie), Gabe (Raven), Kade, Delaney, and Max; four great-grandchildren: Harper, Preslee, Knox and Fletcher; and his sister, Dora Mitchell of Watertown, SD. Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
