Lloyd V. Gehm

Lloyd V. Gehm, age 87, of De Smet, SD, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at Diamond Care Center in Bridgewater, SD, after a brief stay and battle with cancer.

Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in De Smet, SD.

Lloyd was born on July 14, 1935, in De Smet, SD, to Fred and Hazel (Jones) Gehm.  Following high school, Lloyd attended and graduated from South Dakota State University with a degree in agriculture.  He then served in the United States Army for six months (1957-1958) before transferring into the SD Army National Guard (1958-1963).  His military experience greatly influenced the remainder of his life.  After farming for a period after college, he began his professional career with the US Department of Agriculture in 1964 and retired in 1986 as a district conservation officer.

Lloyd married Beverly Fitts in October 1959 in De Smet, SD.  The couple later had four children: Diane, Susan, Robert and Lori.  Throughout his life, he enjoyed fixing and building anything and everything in his shop.  He especially enjoyed welding and anything with a motor, whether it ran or not.  He also had a passion for politics and sharing his views at coffee with friends and strangers alike.

Lloyd is survived by his four children: Diane (Doug) Hunhoff, Susan Pollock, Robert (Sarah) Gehm and Lori Gehm; nine grandchildren: Lindsey and Corey Hunhoff (Diane), Nicholas, Noah, Nathan and Joshua Pollock (Susan), Frederick and Matilda Gehm (Robert), and Isabella Gehm Storm (Lori); and his twin brother, Lyle (Helen) Gehm.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Hazel; and his brother, Lyndon Gehm.
