Linda Florey, age sixty-three, of Watertown, SD, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept 23, 2021, at home with her family by her side.
Linda was born on July 28, 1958, in St. Paul, MN, to Alvin and Jean Meier. She graduated from Highland Park High School and got her BA in Business at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN.
On June 16, 1984, she was united in marriage to Michael Florey. In December, 1985 they moved back to the family farm. Her first years on the farm were filled with raising children: Sara, John and Joshua. Once the kids started school, she kept busy with many farmer’s-wife duties and a few different jobs. Linda hosted gatherings, acted as homeroom mom, did substitute teaching, and worked in a private elderly home. She also had her dream job as a co-owner of a rubber-stamp store. In August, 1999 the family moved to their current residence in Watertown. After she retired from working outside the home, Linda spent many hours with the grandkids as well as shopping in thrift stores. She could always find the deals! She was a member of New Life Evangelical Free Church where she was involved in many of their ministries. Linda always had a great smile and a helpful heart.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Michael; mother, Jean Meier of Watertown; children, Sara of Watertown, John (Londa) of Brookings, and Joshua (Kaitlyn) of Watertown; five grandkids, Bryon, Ellie, Jace, Paisleigh, and Faith; brothers, Joe Meier (Deonne Meier) of St. Petersburg, FL, and Jerry (Michele) Meier of Lakeville, MN; uncles, Clarence Meier of Bloomington, MN, and Ray (Vera) Meier of Perham MN; father- and mother-in-law, Fay and Ila Mae Florey of Clark; several brother- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins; a life-long best friend, Jeanne Quarstad.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; father, Al Meier; brother-in-law, Dave Schweitzer; and grandson, Gabriel Matthew Florey.
In lieu of flowers Linda requested all memorials be directed to the Watertown Christian School (15 12th Ave NE, Watertown, SD 57201) or Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, directed to the ministry of her son, John Florey (316 Eastern Ave, Brookings, SD 57006).
As Linda would always say “God is good all the time.”
