Lila V. Grape, age 96, of Watertown, SD, formerly of Lake Poinsett, SD, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at the local hospital. Funeral services will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Pastor Steve Biswell will officiate. The service will be live-streamed on our website and Facebook page.
Visitation will be prior to the services at the chapel on Thursday, December 30, 2021, from 12:00-2:00 pm.
Burial will be at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Lake Norden, SD. Pallbearers will be: Andy Grape, James Grape, Travis Schulze, Byron Hendrickson, Joe Gogue and Carey Mathiesen.
Lila was born on November 27, 1925, in Sebeka, MN, to Albert and Olga (Aijala) Hendrickson. She graduated from Deer River Minnesota High School in 1946. Following graduation she worked for Munsingwear in Minneapolis, MN.
On March 8, 1952, Lila married William “Bill” Grape in Hayti, SD. The couple made their home at Lake Poinsett where they farmed their entire working career. Bill passed away in 1985. Lila remained on the farm until moving to Watertown in 2009, residing at Edgewood Living Center.
She was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden, SD. She spent over 40 years being a member of You Go, I Go Whist Club. In her spare time, Lila enjoyed sewing, quilting, and knitting.
Lila is survived by her children: George (Hazel) Grape of Alamogordo, NM, Anna (James) Cromer of Springfield, MO, and Robert (Mary Beth) Grape of Watertown, SD; her grandchildren: James Grape (Kate Boyce), Heather (Travis) Schulze, Lisa (Bob) Kolb, Andy (Danielle) Grape, and Cathi (Joe) Grape-Gogue; 11 great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Ethel Harmonick of Mesa, AZ, and Arla Strege of Fargo, ND.
Lila is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents, Albert and Olga; and six brothers and one sister.
