Levi Flora

Levi A. Flora, age 86, of Clark, SD, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021, at Avantara Lake Norden. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Clark United Methodist Church in Clark. Rev. Mark Tracy will be the officiant. Music will be provided by Wanda Bethke as organist. The family is requested to meet at the church by 1:30 p.m. for a family prayer service.

Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday, prior to the service, from 1-2 p.m.

Burial will be at a later date at Rose Hill Cemetery in Clark, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be: Myron Christopherson, Dan Nelson, Roger Collins, Roy Collins, Craig Rasmussen and Dean Fox.

Levi was born on June 18, 1935, to Orville and Berenice (Johnson) Flora, in Laurens, IA. After his father suddenly passed away in 1949, Levi (age 14), his mother and two sisters moved to the family farm near Clark, that had been homesteaded by his grandfather, John Flora. Levi was a freshman in high school when it was necessary for him to assume the chief responsibility of operating the farm. While in high school he played basketball and was exceptionally active in FFA work. He held office in the organization and was named State Star Farmer in 1954 and American Star Farmer in 1956. Levi graduated from Clark High School in 1954. He was united in marriage to Sharon Alexander in 1958.

On January 23, 1993, Levi was united in marriage to Marilyn Schwartz. He continued to farm with his son, Kurt, and raised Angus cattle well into his eighties. Levi enjoyed restoring antique tractors in his spare time and going on various tractor drives over the years. Levi enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in their activities as they were growing up.

Levi is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Clark, SD; his children: Kerrie Lund of Arlington, SD, Kurt Flora of Clark, SD, and Mike (RaeJean) Flora of Clark, SD; his step-children: Allen Schwartz of McMinnville, OR, and Leslie Kemmet of Tappen, ND; his grandchildren: Austin Lund of Arlington, SD, Lisa Moeller of Rapid City, SD, Christina Flora of Clark, SD, Diana Flora of Sioux Falls, SD and Michaela Flora of Woonsocket, SD.

Preceding him in death are his parents, two sisters, Doris Collins of Clark, SD and Verna Newell of Webster, SD; and one son-in-law, Chris Lund of Arlington, SD.
