Leroy Trenary

Leroy Gene Trenary, age 78, of Erwin, SD, passed away after a short battle with cancer on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at De Smet Hospital surrounded by his family.

Celebration of life will be held by the family at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the Legion Hall in Erwin, SD, with visitation at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at Erwin Cemetery.

Leroy was born August 8, 1945, in Erwin, SD. He attended Erwin School until the 9th grade. Leroy married JoAnne Marie Hein on June 21, 1975, in Lake Preston, SD.  He worked for Flanneys Meat Packaging and Huron Dressed Beef. He retired after being placed on permanent disability. Then they moved back to his hometown of Erwin, SD.

Leroy was an avid pool player, fisherman, and hunter. He loved watching Nascar, baseball, and basketball. One of his biggest joys was spending time with his family at the lake.

Leroy is survived by his wife JoAnne of Erwin, SD; his daughter Melissa (Stuart) Apland, Brookings, SD; son LeRoy (Debbie) Trenary of Chester, SD; 6 grandchildren: Alysha Henderson of Ham Lake, MN; MaKaylyn, Maddie, DiLyn Borecky of Chester, SD; DeLanie and Sloane Borah of Chester, SD; Brother Jim (JoAnne) Trenary of Brookings, SD; Sister Betty (Phil) Marken of Erwin, SD; Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Judy (Ronnie) Brown of Lake Preston, SD; Donnie (Petra) Hein of Kansas City, KS; Carla (George) Stanley of Brookings, SD; Connie (Rob) Karsmizki from Manhattan, KS; Mike (Dustine) Hein of Egan, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
