Larry Lee Janssen, age 86, of De Smet, SD, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at his residence in De Smet, SD.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 11, 2023, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Home in De Smet, SD. Pastor David Peterson will officiate with music provided by Mary Weerts as organist and Tristin Gruenhagen as vocalist. All of Larry’s nieces, nephews, and grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers. The service will be livestreamed via the Crawford-Osthus website.

Visitation will be held at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Home in the hour prior to the memorial on Monday.
Larry Lee Janssen was born on December 29, 1936, to Henry and Elizabeth (Buzzyn) Janssen in Bancroft, SD. He graduated from De Smet High School in 1955. Upon graduation, Larry entered the workforce where he proved himself to be a hardworking man. He worked in a variety of jobs before beginning to raise sheep on the farm while forming Janssen Construction which he would own and operate for many years. Eventually Larry would step away from construction to work for Foltz Buildings in the sales department until his retirement.
On June 27, 1958, Larry married Naomi Mulder in Flandreau, SD. The happy, young couple would settle in De Smet, SD, and raise two sons, Randall “Randy” and Richard “Rick”.
Larry is survived by his son, Richard (Michelle) Janssen of De Smet, SD; three grandchildren: Joshua (Ashley) Janssen, Jared Janssen, and Jacob Janssen; as well as two great-grandchildren: Jennea Janssen and Theo Janssen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi; son, Randall; parents, Henry and Elizabeth; as well as two sisters, Betty Ann Goldsmith and Barbara Albers.
