Larry G. Birney

Larry G. Birney, age 77, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at his residence. Memorial Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Cornerstone Church in Watertown. Pastor Mark Tracy will officiate.

Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Thursday, November 9, from 5-8 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Friday.

Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Active pallbearers will be Justin Siderewicz, Josh Talsma, Gunnar Loeschke, Clay Plemmons, Jeff Bloch, and Brandon Norman.

Larry was born on December 5, 1945, in Webster, SD, to Ronald and Inez (Schultz) Birney. He attended Waubay High School and entered the National Guard.

On November 12, 1965, Larry married Darlene Boadwine in Watertown, SD. The couple made their home in Watertown, where Larry started Birney Construction for many years.

Larry had a passion for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and camper. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Larry enjoyed watching old westerns and playing pranks. He was very proud of his two son-in-laws and would call them his sons.

Larry is survived by his wife, Darlene, of Watertown; two daughters, Carrie and Shoan (Birney) Loeschke of Watson, MN, and Stacey and George (Birney) Siderewicz of Milbank, SD; two brothers, Dale Birney, of Waubay, SD, and Earl Birney, of Lorton, OK; seven grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Beverly Snaza; his mother and father-in-law, Fred and Gladys Boadwine; and his three brother-in-laws: Randy, Roger, and Darwin Boadwine.

Larry was full of love and faith and would always give a helping hand. He loved his girls especially his wife.
