LaVonne was born on June 13, 1927 in Watertown, SD. She was the third of eight children born to Dewey and Alice (Gustafson) Winjum. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1946. While attending school and after graduation she worked in various restaurants around town, including two that were owned by her parents. Later she moved to Oregon for a time to live with a favorite Aunt and Uncle. Sometime later she lived in St. Paul, MN, working at the 3M Company for a short time. Then she came back to Watertown, where on August 31, 1950 she married a farmer south of Watertown, LeRoy Wolcott, who in later years she would fondly like to tell people she had known since she was 12 yrs. old and was the kindest man she had ever known.

Together on the farm, they raised three children. Besides housekeeping, LaVonne raised chickens and sold eggs. She loved working in her gardens of vegetables and flowers. She also enjoyed baking, especially for and with her grandchildren. And who could forget her “famous” apple pie! She also was an avid reader. In 1960 LaVonne was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She enjoyed spending considerable time in a volunteer ministry. She loved to share the Bible truth she had found and looked forward to a time when under God Kingdom rule by Christ Jesus, this entire earth will be brought back to the paradise condition that Jehovah God had intended when he created it.

LaVonne is survived by her son, Steven (Laura) Wolcott, six grandchildren, Joshua (Andrea) Wolcott, Stephanie (Shawn) Flemming, Rachel (Matthew) Ball, Jamin (Brandi) Wolcott, Nathan Miller and Micah (Christina) Miller, 2 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mary Langendorfer and Joyce Wright..

LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents, husband, LeRoy, son Kent Wolcott and daughter, Kathy Miller, a brother, Dale Winjum, four sisters Darlene Bryant, Gloria Abraham, Marlys Tornow and Doreen Spencer.
