LaVertta M. Evenson, age 98, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at her residence. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. Fr. John Fischer will be the celebrant. Music will be provided by Jane Rokusek as organist with Blaine Martian as song leader. The Mass will be Live-Streamed on the Crawford-Osthus website and Face Book Live.
Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel on Friday from 5-7 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. and a Scripture Wake Service at 7:00 p.m.
Burial will be at St. Peters Cemetery in Sisseton, SD. Active pallbearers will be: Daniel Evenson, Joseph Evenson, Eddie Evenson, Jonathon Evenson, Craig Evenson, Greg Evenson and Mike Evenson.
LaVertta was born on August 17, 1923, to Gilbert and Rose (Breker) Isensee, in Rural Lake City, SD. She was a 1941 graduate of Veblen High School. On September 25, 1941, LaVertta was united in marriage to Burnell Evenson. The couple made their home in Sisseton, SD and in 1957 they opened the Tastee Freeze in Sisseton, which they owned and operated for 21 years. They eventually moved to Watertown. Burnell preceded her in death on March 26, 2001.
While living in Watertown, LaVertta volunteered at Avantara (Golden Living Center) until reaching the age of 95. She loved making Rosaries for many missions worldwide, making over 125,000 of them. She volunteered at Prairie Lakes Healthcare and Jenkins Living Center, where she led the Rosary for many years. She loved playing cards with Millie and their other friends. LaVertta was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. She enjoyed making quilts and loved making krumkake.
LaVertta is survived by her children, Gordon (Carlen) Evenson, of Stockton, CA, Mark (Sandy Sherman) Evenson of Meridian, ID, and Kevin (Carolyn) Evenson, of Buhler, KS; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; her brother, Harlan Isensee of Moorhead, MN; and her special friend, Millie Langenfeld of Watertown, SD.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Burnell; her parents; her great-grandson, Christopher; her great-granddaughter, Crystal; three sisters and one brother.
