Kristin Kaye Anthony Born: March 17, 1968, in Watertown, South Dakota, to parents Andy and Marilou (Amundson) Nielsen. She passed away at her home in Crossville, Tennessee, on March 14, 2025.
Kristin attended school at Franklin Elementary, part of the Chester Area School District, Chester, SD and Oldham School in Oldham, SD, graduating from Hamlin High School in 1986. She attended college at USD and later transferred to SDSU. She moved to Colorado and held several jobs before going to work for Woodward Governor. While employed there, she completed her BS degree and went on to earn her RN degree in 2001. She began working at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, CO, in 2001 as a neonatal ICU nurse, where she worked for 22 years. Her real passion in life, besides her own baby, was caring for the babies in the NICU. She would talk endlessly about the challenges they all faced, and she enjoyed seeing the returning families that came to the annual NICU reunion.
Kristin met her husband, John, in Ft. Collins, CO, in 1992, and they were married on August 8, 1998, in a beautiful late summer wedding at the Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch in Loveland, CO. Her husband John was also a nurse at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, CO and her daughter Taylor graduated with an RN degree and joined her mom and dad at Poudre Valley Hospital.
She loved animals, birds, birdhouses, and the outdoors. Gardening was her way of de-stressing and getting close to nature—any flowers, all sorts of bugs and critters. Her other enjoyments when she was younger included ceramics, latch hook, and almost any craft. Later in life, she enjoyed cross-stitching, crocheting, quilting, and raising her daughter. In recent times, she had developed a fondness for drying flowers and stained glass. She was a voracious reader and read thousands of books in her time here.
Kristin is survived by her husband, John; her daughter, Taylor Anne; her father Andy Nielsen of Mount Carol Illinois; her mother Marilou Scheafer of Oldham, SD; her brother Douglas (Cindy) of Madison, SD; three nephews, Rick Nielsen (Breanna) of Madison, SD, Christian Nielsen (Andrea) of Sioux Falls, SD and Sean Nielsen (Kaylee) of Madison, SD; her mother- and father-in-law, Ed and Connie Anthony; Henry Anthony; Christine Barakat and Russell Anthony (Mel) of Crossville, TN. She is also survived by many cherished family members, including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service to be held at the Oldham Lutheran Church at 11:30 AM on April 5, 2025, with lunch to follow. She was loved, she was light, she was a blessing and a gift to all who knew her. Blessed be her memory.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Crawford-Osthus Funeral Home of Arlington, Lake Preston, Oldham.
