Kermit Spilde, age 75, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2020, in Yuma, AZ.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2020, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Rev. Kent Stillson will officiate.
Music will be provided by A.J. Sherrill as organist.
Visitation will be prior to services at the chapel on Thursday beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown and the Ellsworth AFB Honor Guard.
Urnbearers will be Allan Spilde, Myron Spilde, Shawn Spilde, and Shelby Spilde.
Honorary urnbearers will be all of Kermit's family and friends.
Kermit was born January 1, 1945 to John and Mildred Spilde of Lake Norden, SD.
He graduated from Lake Norden High School in 1963.
He joined the United States Air Force on August 17, 1963, and was stationed in Rapid City, SD, and Tripoli, Africa.
He was honorably discharged on July 4, 1967. On September 7, 1968, Kermit married Ione Kothe in Lake Norden, SD, and to this marriage three sons were born.
In 1980, he opened Kermit's Farm Center in Watertown and retired in 2002.
Kermit enjoyed going to Yuma, AZ, for 18 winters riding sand rails and later side by side and riding his CanAm Spyder.
He enjoyed fishing by himself in the early morning and with his family, as well as water skiing, dancing, games, and playing cards.
Kermit was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in May 2017. In 2019, the cancer spread to his liver.
Fisher Spilde will ride his grandfather's CanAm Spyder in the procession to the cemetery.
Reilley Spilde will be handed the flag and then present the flag to his grandmother, Ione.
Kermit is survived by his wife, Ione; three sons, Allan (Jodi) Spilde, Myron (Ingrid) Spilde and Shawn Spilde; one sister, Margie Johnson; three grandchildren, Reilley Spilde, Fisher Spilde, and Shelby Spilde; two step-grandchildren, Frankie and Auna Ferro.
Kermit was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Melvin and Gene Spilde; one sister, Louise Hendrickson; and one granddaughter, Alison Spilde.
