Kelly L. Halperin, age 61, of Huron, SD, passed peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in De Smet, SD, after courageously battling many very serious health issues.
A celebration of life will be held for Kelly on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Range Room at the Plains in Huron, SD.
On February 11, 1964, Kelly Lynn Halperin was born in Huron, SD. She was raised in Huron, SD, and graduated from Huron High School in 1982. Kelly was always interested in hair and makeup, so she and her infant son, Ryan, moved to Allen, TX, where Kelly could then attend beauty school. Although Kelly enjoyed attending beauty school and was very good at it, she missed being close to family so she and Ryan moved back to Huron, SD.
Kelly worked a variety of different jobs over the years and was good at all of them. She definitely could do anything she put her mind to. Despite being good at all her jobs, her passion was taking care of people. Kelly worked at a couple different nursing homes and was wonderful at it. She would have been a great nurse. She worked at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in De Smet, SD, where she helped care for our Grandmother (Fern Miller) while she was in there. Then when our Aunt (Evelyn May) was unable to stay at her home due to failing health, Kelly took care of her at our Mom’s house so Aunt Evie could remain at home until she passed.
Kelly was kind, thoughtful, fun, emotional, proud, and very head strong at times, but was always willing to help anyone who needed it. Kelly loved to and wasn’t scared at all to ride the scariest rides at amusement parks. She also liked to watch scary movies even though they scared her and she’d cover her eyes and ears sometimes while watching. Family was extremely important to her and she was so very proud of her son Ryan and her grandchildren Axton and Sklyar and their accomplishments. Her absence will be missed tremendously by our whole family.
Kelly is survived by her mother, Penny Fisher of Huron, SD; son, Ryan (Chantel) Halperin of Huron, SD; three sisters: Tracy (Kevin Harrington) Halperin of De Smet, SD, Maureen (Scot) Kintz of Spring Hill, FL, and Christy (Hondo) Arpoika of Oakdale, CA; grandchildren, Axton and Skylar Halperin of Huron, SD; niece, Sydnee Winter and nephew, Cullyn Winter of De Smet, SD, nephew Cole Kintz of Brooksville, FL, and Tristen Kintz of New Port Richey, FL, niece, Laven Meyer and nephews, Miko and Hondo Arpoika of Oakdale, CA.
She was preceded in death by family members: Barry Halperin, Gerry Sheridan, Mary Jane Fast, Evelyn May, and Fern Miller.
