John E. Priest III, age 78, of Watertown, SD, formerly of California, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Prairie Lakes Healthcare. There will not be a funeral as per his wishes but there will be a memorial service at a later date in California where his ashes will be released into the Pacific Ocean with his wife and son as per their wishes. John Eli Priest III was born on February 10th, 1944 in Vancouver, Washington to John Eli Priest II and Lucy Ann Priest. The family moved to Costa Mesa, California where he grew up, attended, and graduated from Newport Harbor High School in Newport Beach, Ca. Upon graduation he went to Computer Technician and Programing school where he graduated near the top of his class. He spent more than 40 years working as a computer programmer and analyst, retiring from Merle Norman Cosmetics.
On August 16, 1968, he married the love of his life, Connie Lynn Kinkead. They remained married until her passing on May 20, 2017. They had two sons together, Garrett and Steven. They remained in Huntington Beach, Ca. from 1977 until 2007 when John retired and they moved out to their retirement home in Warner Springs, Ca.
During his life he enjoyed dancing with Connie, being a season ticket holder for the Los Angeles Angels for many years, and spending time with his family. His final two years he lived in Watertown, South Dakota with his son Garrett (Jody) Priest and enjoyed spending time with his grandsons Brett Priest, Ethan Priest, and Wyatt Niemann. He also really enjoyed spending time with all the animals at the Priest household, especially his favorite dog companion, Tally.
He is survived by his son Garrett (Jody) Priest, of Watertown and his grandsons Brett and Ethan of Watertown.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Connie, son Steven, parents John Eli Priest II and Lucy Ann Priest, his brother Lonnie Priest, and his grandson Wyatt Niemann.
