Joan Meroney

Ruth Joan Meroney, age 88, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023.  She was the widow of James "Jim" Meroney.  Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown.  Pastor Steve Biswell will officiate.  

Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown prior to services on Saturday, starting at 10:00 a.m.

Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.

Joan was born on July 6, 1935, in Noble County, Indiana, to Rupert and Eva (Adair) Hicks.  She attended Ligonier High School graduating in 1953.  She attended South Bend College of Commerce majoring in Accounting, graduating in November of 1954. 

On August 25, 1956, Joan married James “Jim” Meroney at Ligonier, IN.  Joan worked as an accountant at Spies Corp. from September of 1973 to January of 2007.  After retirement she kept busy working part time at her favorite clothing store, Christopher & Banks, and volunteering.  She was an avid reader and you wouldn’t find a more organized home than hers.

Joan is survived by one son, Jeff Meroney, of Watertown, SD; one daughter Jayne (Jay) Moore, of Keller, TX; three grandchildren, Amy (Ryan) Childress, of Southlake, TX, Daniel Moore, of Austin, TX, and Tommy Moore (Kellie Wall), of Vancouver, WA; and three great-grandchildren: Connor, Trevor, and Callie Childress, of Southlake, TX; her siblings, Phyllis Hile, of Ligonier, IN, Ray (Connie) Hicks, of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Glen Hicks, of Syracuse, IN.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother, Robert Hicks; one daughter-in-law, Candis Meroney.
