Joan Goeman Obituary

 

Joan Evonne Taecker Goeman, age 88, resident of Watertown, SD, passed away on September 16, 2021.  Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 24, 2021, at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown.  Pastor Dan Ofstehage will officiate.  Music will be provided by A. J. Sherrill as organist with Robbyn Givens as soloist.  The service will be Live-Streamed via Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer website and the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel Facebook Live.

Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Thursday from 5-7 p.m.

Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Hayti.  Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Active pallbearers will be:  Brock Jensen, Blake Jensen, Brad Jensen, Brent Jensen, T. J. Schamens, Drew Anderson, Ethan Larson and Corbyn Steen.

Joan was born on March 16, 1933 to Harold Arthur Taecker Jr. and Patronella “Nell” Johanna Gebhart Taecker.  Joan was the eldest of nine children which include: Harold Jr., George “Clayton”, Sharon, Bonita “Bonnie”,  Mary Ann, Merrill, Roger and Bruce Taecker.

Joan graduated from Watertown High School in 1951.  She went on to attend and graduate from Presentation School of Nursing in Aberdeen, SD, earning her RN degree through their diploma program in 1954.  Joan worked at the same hospital in Aberdeen until she married.

Joan married James “Jim” Edward Goeman Sr. on September 2, 1954, in Watertown, SD.  Together they purchased a farm north of Hayti, SD.  Together they farmed and developed an award winning dairy operation.

Joan’s hobbies included reading books, gardening, sewing and quilting.  Joan was one of the founding members of the Magic Needle Quilting Guild in Watertown, SD.  Joan was a long time member of the Hayti and Watertown Lutheran Church.  She was active in many of the church’s various functions. 

Joan is survived by her children in order of birth:  James “Jim” Jr. (Penny), Barbara “Barb” (Cris), Beverly “Bev”, Bonnie (Michael “Mike”), Judi (David), and Kay (Victor);  17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Predeceased in death are her parents, Harold and Nell Taecker, in-laws Clifford and Viola Goeman, her husband Jim Goeman and her brother Clayton Taecker.
