JoAnn Mischke, age 85, of Hazel, SD, formerly of Black Hawk and Hayti, SD, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2020, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. She was the widow of Herbert Mischke. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at Hayti Lutheran Church. Rev. Randy Eisenbeisz will officiate. Music will be provided by Lisa Pedersen as organist with Judy Everson as soloist. The family is requested to meet at the church by 10:30 a.m. for a family prayer service.
Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. and also at the church on Thursday, prior to the service.
Burial will be at West Norden Cemetery, Rural Hayti. Active pallbearers will be: Bill Frothinger, Travis Lee, Mark Barker and Jana Battern.
JoAnn was born on May 28, 1934, to Orlan and Ethel (Wolf) Tetzlaff, in Watertown, SD. She was a graduate of Thomas High School. On September 20, 1952, JoAnn was united in marriage to Terry Lee in Hayti. The couple farmed south of Hayti until 1964 when they moved into Hayti. JoAnn received her business degree in 1974. In 1980 they moved to Black Hawk, SD. JoAnn worked for the SD School of Mines and Technology for many years as an Administrative Assistant. JoAnn retired and continued to live in Black Hawk. Terry passed away on November 17, 2000. JoAnn was united in marriage to Herbert Mischke on July 12, 2003, and they made their home on the Mischke farm near Hazel. Herb and JoAnn enjoyed traveling, wintering in Arizona, and spending time with family. Herb passed away on November 16, 2019.
JoAnn is survived by her son, Jason Lee of Rapid City, SD;
her daughter-in-law, Sharon Lee of Sioux Falls, SD; two step-daughters, Connie (RaVonne) Deibert of Aberdeen, SD and Barb (Doug) Beckman of White Lake, SD; and their extended families. Three grandchildren: Travis Lee (Jessie Dant), Nikki (Matt) Jaqua and Taylor Lee (Taylor Haight); five great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren: Brian (Coty) McGuire and Scott (Sarah) McGuire; two sisters, Jeanne (Blaine) Kornamann of Mesa, AZ and Joyce (Davis) Battern of Glenwood, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Terry and Herbert; one infant daughter, Sherri; one son, Joel; and her parents.
