Jewel Ann Brekke, age 81, of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Mitchell, SD, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in Sioux Falls, SD. She was the widow of Clifford Brekke. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Rev. Bryce Blank will officiate.
Visitation will be held prior to the funeral starting at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be at New Hope Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hayti, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be Ashley Smith, Matt Brekke, Nicole Johnson, Natalie Smith, Edward Brekke, Braxton Smith, Blair Brekke, Silas Brekke, and Nora Smith. Active pallbearers will be Austin Brekke, Zach Brekke, Carson Brekke, Connor Brekke, Brady Smith, and Dallas Kannas.
Jewel was born on March 15, 1943, in Palo Alto, CA, to Harold and Iola (Stensig) Johnson. During her childhood the family moved to Lake Norden, SD, where Jewel graduated from Lake Norden High School with the class of 1961. She went on to further her education by attending Northern State University and Augustana University. Jewel then graduated from Stewart School of Cosmetology.
On August 15, 1964, Jewel married Clifford Brekke at New Hope Lutheran Church, rural Hayti. The couple lived in Mobridge, SD and Dallas, TX, for a few years before moving to St. Paul, MN, Sioux Falls, SD, and Mitchell, SD.
Jewel enjoyed music of all kinds, playing the piano, and spending time with her Grandchildren.
Jewel is survived by her sons, Dave (Carolyn) Brekke, of Tea, SD, and Michael (Lori) Brekke, of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Ashley (Brady) Smith, Austin (Nicole Johnson), Matt Brekke, Zach Brekke, Connor Brekke, Carson Brekke, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Jewel is preceded in death by her husband; parents; one great-grandson, Edward Brekke.
