Jerry William Koistinen, age 55, passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2021, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 15, 2021, at New Life Evangelical Free Church in Watertown.
Pastor Michael Wallenmeyer will officiate. Music will be provided by Glenn Walker and pianist, Mary Modica. Family is requested to meet at the church for a prayer service at 12:30 p.m. The service will be live-streamed via Facebook Live on the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel page and also on our website.
Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Sunday, March 14, 2021, from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown, SD. Active pallbearers will be: Gary Koistinen, Andrew Koistinen, Brian Koistinen, Jason Koistinen, Chad Olson and James Lauseng.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Access Ministries, 25 West Kemp Ave. Watertown, SD.
Jerry was born in Orange, CA on March 7, 1966, to Linda (Mercer) Boatman. Linda married Chet Koistinen in June of 1971, and the family relocated to Watertown, SD. Jerry attended school in Watertown from first grade through High School. He really enjoyed wrestling and being on a state championship team his senior year. He was proud of that accomplishment along with individually placing 4th in his weight class.
After high school, Jerry was employed doing drywall, taping and some painting. He had resided in Watertown and Rapid City, and was currently living in Sioux Falls, where he enjoyed working at the Smoke Deals Tobacco Shop.
Jerry had a big heart for children and enjoyed being around them. Jerry loved being with others and was always trying to be a friend to them and help them if he could. Even though Jerry had struggles in his life, he always trusted in Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord.
Jerry is survived by his father, Chet, and step-mother, Joyce Koistinen of Watertown, SD; siblings: Jimmie Koistinen, Watertown, SD, Jeff (Genevie) Koistinen, Marana, AZ, Casandra Koistinen, Crofton, MD, Marla (Mercer) Bell, Los Angeles, CA, and Kyle Daschel, of Rapid City, SD; and four nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Linda (Mercer) Koistinen; and his grandparents, William and Virginia Mercer and Arnold and Myrtle Koistinen.
