Jason Jorgenson Obituary

Jason Tyrone Jorgenson, age 56, of Watertown, South Dakota, formerly of Hayti, passed away on June 9, 2026, after courageously battling numerous health challenges for many, many years.

A family lead memorial service will be held at a late date in July.

Jason Tyrone “Jake” Jorgenson was born on February 5, 1970, in Watertown, South Dakota, to James T. and Doris Jorgenson. He grew up in Hayti, South Dakota, where he attended Hamlin School District and graduated with the Class of 1988.

Following graduation, Jake worked at several local businesses in a variety of factory positions before discovering his true passion—cooking. He worked as a cook at several area restaurants and took great pride in every meal he prepared. Jake loved feeding people and bringing them happiness through his cooking. It seemed he was always in the kitchen creating something special for family and friends.

Music was another of Jake’s great passions. He loved playing the electric guitar and performed with several bands over the years. A devoted fan of rock and metal music, he found great joy in both listening to and playing the music he loved. Jake also enjoyed fishing, pheasant hunting, reading, movies, and television. He was widely known among family and friends as an enthusiastic Star Wars fan. In addition, he spent many years participating in League Darts in the Watertown and Hayti leagues, achieving a State Doubles Championship title in 2005.

Jake is survived by his brothers, Terry (Kathy) Person of Denver, Colorado; Tim (Joni) Person of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Wade (Tiffany) Jorgenson of Hayti, South Dakota; his aunt, Marlys Rose of Minneapolis, Minnesota; several nieces, nephews, and their families; his special friend, Glenda Kutil, and her children; and his beloved dog, Scooter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Doris Jorgenson; both sets of grandparents; his sisters, Tamy Person and Lynda (BJ) Hatfield; his brother, Todd (Carol) Person; and several aunts and uncles.
