James “Jim” M. Lantgen, age 84, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at the local hospital. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Pastor Cheryl Rondeau-Bassett will officiate. The service will be Live-Streamed and Facebook Live via the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel website.
Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Saturday from 11-2 p.m.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Military honors will be conducted by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown, and the Military Funeral Honors Team of SD Army National Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be: Jim’s grandson, Blake Lantgen, and his 21 nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be: Steve Olson, Randy Wangen, Jerry Andrews, and Justin Lantgen.
Jim was born on May 10, 1937, in Watertown, SD, to Martin and Lucille (Olson) Lantgen. He attended school in Watertown and the surrounding area. He proudly served in the US Army from 1955 – 1959, where he spent 28 months in Germany.
Jim was united in marriage to Margie Henrichs, however, this marriage later dissolved. He was an outstanding auto body technician, working at various body shops in the community, most recently at Veeder’s Collision Center in Watertown.
He enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle. Family time was very important to Jim, and he loved going on camping and fishing trips with them.
Jim is survived by his son, Cully (Tamy) Lantgen of Watertown; his grandson, Blake (Misti) Lantgen of Hayti, SD; his siblings: Kenny (Barb) Lantgen of Watertown, Jeanette Wangen of Watertown, Larry (Helen) Lantgen of Lander, WY, Carol (Wayne) Latt of Watertown, Gayle (Elwood) Andrews of Lake Norden, SD, Denny (Marty) Lantgen of Bradley, SD, Marla (James Sr.) Andrews of Lake Preston, SD, Elaine Lantgen, and Richard Lantgen, both of Watertown.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Darlene Lantgen; brother-in-law, Bob Wangen; sister-in-law, Pam Lantgen; and granddaughter, Brandi Jo Lantgen.
