Henry J. Buller

Henry J. Buller, age 90, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at a local hospital.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Henry was born on October 14, 1934 to Henry and Hilda (Epp) Buller in Henderson NE, growing up on the family farm where he enjoyed working with the draft horses before graduating high school in 1953.

Later he met his soon to be wife Dolores (Schrader) at Yankton SD State Hospital where they were both employed. Henry and Dolores were united in marriage in Emery SD on June 8, 1956.

Upon completing college and graduate school at Augustana College in Sioux Falls and Univ. Of Nebraska – Lincoln, Henry worked at Veterans Administration hospitals in Knoxville IA and Rochester MN before moving to Sioux Falls in 1965 and working as a social worker. When not in the office Henry enjoyed raising horses and performing large home remodeling projects.

Henry was active at Central Baptist Church in Sioux Falls where he served on the deacon board.

In 1987 Henry made a career change to carpentry and he and Dolores moved to Mahtomedi, MN, before relocating to Watertown SD in 1995 where he added a walk-in basement apartment under his sons home, worked as a home remodeling contractor, and eventually became a “snowbird” migrating annually between Watertown and Tucson AZ before moving to Tucson permanently in 2010.

Henry returned to Watertown in 2021 where he was a resident at Stoneybrook Assisted Living until his passing.

Henry is survived by his sons Steven (Nicca) and Mark (Patti), and grandsons Patrick and Mitchell. He is also survived by his sister Marlys Oestreich of Lincoln NE and numerous nieces and nephews.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dolores, brothers Arnold and Ronald, and his sister Alfrieda.
